Making the Most of Your Training Room Visit
The training room is busiest in the half hour before practice starts, when athletes line up for taping, bracing and quick pre-activity checks. If you need more than a routine tape job, such as an evaluation of a new injury or a rehab session, try to come in as soon as classes end, or arrange a time with the athletic training staff in advance. That way a minor concern gets proper attention instead of a rushed look between other athletes.
What to bring and what to expect
- Arrive ready to be assessed. Wear or bring shorts or clothing that makes it easy to examine the injured area.
- Report injuries early. A sore ankle or tight hamstring is far easier to manage on day one than after a week of playing through it.
- Follow the plan between visits. Rehab exercises, icing routines and activity limits only work if they continue at home and on days off.
- Keep your coach in the loop. Communication between athlete, athletic trainer and coach helps decide safely when someone is ready to return to full participation.
Game days and seasonal changes
Hours can shift during the season. Home contests, tournaments and holiday breaks may extend, shorten or move coverage, so check the athletics schedule and listen for announcements from coaches. Out-of-season athletes doing conditioning or recovering from a longer-term injury should confirm availability before planning a session around the standard times.
Concussions and serious injuries
Any suspected head injury should be reported right away. Oregon high school sports follow concussion protocols that remove an athlete from play when a concussion is suspected and require clearance before returning. If symptoms appear outside training room hours, or if an injury looks serious, contact a doctor or seek urgent care rather than waiting for the next open session. The athletic training staff support recovery, but they are not a substitute for emergency or medical care.
Parents and guardians with questions about care, forms or follow-up can reach the athletics office through the contact page. Information about the spaces used for treatment and conditioning is available on the facilities page.
